Are you interested in volunteering at the 2025 Sydney International Open?
We are looking for keen volunteers who have a passion for chess and are interested in the logistics behind the organisation and assist in the operation of major chess events!
Volunteer roles include:
Arbiting:
- Arbiting the Classical and Blitz divisions of the event.
- This role is designed for newly qualified National Arbiters with less experience with large events. You are not required to attend all five days and can do as little as just one round! You will shadow an experienced arbiter who will show you the ropes to chess arbiting.
- Requirements:
- Have an active National Arbiter license from FIDE.
- Minimum of 16 years old.
- Have or are willing to obtain a Working with Children’s Check (if 18 years old or over).
Results Coordinator
- Manages the collection, data entry, and verification of the results of each game.
- Collects scoresheets following the end of each game.
- Other roles assigned by the Chief Organiser or Chief Arbiter when necessary.
- You are not required to attend all 5 days or stay for the whole day.
Valuables Manager
- Ensure collection of mobile devices and other personal items of players in the Championship division.
- Ensure the safekeeping of items and the return of items to players following the end of their game in the Championship division.
- Ensure collection of mobile devices for spectators wishing to enter the Championship division.
- Other roles assigned by the Chief Organiser or Chief Arbiter when necessary.
- You are not required to attend all 5 days or stay for the whole day.
None of the roles will involve any strenuous physical activity.
