Registrations for the 2026 Sydney International Open will open on the 1st of November.

If players are moved to another division, they may have to pay the difference or receive a partial refund.
The April FIDE and March ACF rating lists will be used.
Unrated players are only eligible to play in the Contenders division of the Classical events. Exceptions may be granted at the organiser’s discretion.
Early bird entry fees apply for entries before January 15th, 2026.
Standard entry fees apply from January 16th 2026, to April 1st, 2026.
Late entry fees apply after 1st April 2026
Blitz entries on the day are $50 and close at 2:30 pm.
IMPORTANT:
Not a Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia and don’t have a FIDE ID? Please contact your national federation to obtain a FIDE ID before entering the event.
Terms and Conditions
- Players not residing in Australia (Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident) must have a FIDE ID to compete. Players must obtain an ID from their national federation if not listed on the FIDE website. The organisers reserve the right to ask for proof of Citizenship/Permanent Residency if necessary.
- Players may provisionally register for a division they are not currently eligible for based on FIDE or ACF ratings. Players will be moved into an appropriate division based on rating, and the relevant entry fee at the time of registration will be charged.
- Refund Policy TBD
- The organisers reserve the right to deny or modify entries into each division based on the player’s rating if they change.
- Registrations and payments are through Trybooking. The Rooty Hill Chess Club will absorb the processing and ticket fees unless payment is completed through PayPal, where a 0.5% surcharge will apply.
Provisional entries will be accepted for all three divisions if you do not currently meet the rating requirement.
Players will be moved into correct divisions based off March ACF or April FIDE ratings. Difference in entry fee will be reimbursed or billed as required, based on entry fees at time of registration.
Discounts
1. FIDE title holders of GM, WGM, IM and WIM are eligible for free entry into the Championships and Blitz if entered before the 1st of March 2025.
2. FIDE Title Holders of FM and WFM are eligible for a discount of 20% into the Championships and Challengers if entered before the 1st of March 2025.
3. Concessions are available to pensioners, disability holders, and tertiary students under twenty-five (25). The Chief Organiser must see proof of concession before the tournament starts. Juniors are not eligible for concession entry.
4. Discounts do not stack. Players are only eligible for one discount. (e.g. Concession entries are not eligible for the 30% FM discount)

Players must have a rating of Jonas Sze-To’s FIDE standard + 1 to be eligible to play in the championships.
